Fighting racism in the Netherlands
Last updated: July 22, 2020
We maintain a list of local actions and resources in the fight against racism here in and around the Netherlands, including but not limited to the literary and arts community, aimed especially for those of us who are white. You can read the most recent iteration of this list here.
We have grouped some of these resources on this page in the following lists:
Literary reading list
Luckily with the work we do, we meet a lot of writers with books. Here’s a reading list that highlights local Black poets, novelists, and the in-between.
Where possible, we link to English translations (unfortunately rare) and to the publishers directly. For these and other titles, you can also contact Bijlmer Bookstore to see if they have them in stock. Another great resource for children’s books, with a multilingual selection, is EduCulture.
We encourage you to explore these writers and their works, not all of which are listed here. If you know of a book that should be on this list, we welcome suggestions.
