Translation, Art and the Strangeness of Language with Sami Khatib

  • 142 Prins Hendrikkade Amsterdam, NH, 1011 Netherlands (map)

Benjamin scholar Sami Khatib, PhD, will guide us through a close reading of Benjamin’s seminal essay "The Task of the Translator" elucidating on key passages of the text. The talk will situate the essay within Benjamin’s philosophy and dwell upon the issue of universal translatability beyond capitalist modes of translation. It will ponder upon translation as the infinite after-life of texts and its relation to the strangeness and foreignness of language as such.

The discussion is open and you are warmly invited to contribute actively.
