Café Cineville Special: Film & Poetry

  • 452 Prinsengracht Amsterdam, NH, 1017 KE Netherlands (map)

At Café Cineville, ‘De Uitkijk’, in collaboration with Cineville, brings modern classics and old cult hits back to the screen. Every Friday at 23:00, Café Cineville lets you enjoy a variety of classics, scream in fear at blood-curdling horror films, or discover that cult film yet unknown to you. The bar stays open throughout the night to ensure the possibility of a pleasant drink.

This edition of Café Cineville brings you the 1980s hit Dead Poets Society. Directed by Peter Weir, Dead Poets Society stars Robin Williams as the enigmatic English teacher John Keating who inspires his students to a love of poetry and to ‘seize the day’. This Friday’s screening will also include a keynote address by Amsterdam poet and scholar of English literature and poetry, and one of the founders of the literary community the ‘Amsterdam Writers Guild’: Jonas van de Poel. He will discuss the origins of poetry, its relevance to contemporary society, and read you some of his own work, in order to warm you up to the world of Dead Poets Society.

Join us this Friday!
