Before and after the screening of “The Black Panthers – Vanguard of the Revolution” as part of IDFA at Bijlmer Parktheater, there will be two panels:

How do social justice and Twitter connect in NL? How does one influence the other and what are the important happenings of the last six months? During the panel a couple Twitterati share their experiences, observations and prospects.

22.00u – 23.30u: Anti-racist resistance movements and the Western mainstream

Panelists: Synclaire Butler, Andre Reeder, Maryama Omar, Simone Zeefuik and Maarten van Hinte.
After the screening both the panel and the audience will discuss the following:
a. Whitewashed or criminalized: how Western media frames non-white resistance movements and its icons.
b. Personification and erasure: those who are chosen to represent the struggle and those whose efforts get erased from the mainstream’s memories
c. What can/should we learn from the Black Panthers? Which strategies are good to adopt and what are the mistakes we don’t have to make again?
