BIG FICTION

Big Fiction celebrates the soul of the long story: generous, transportive, and a little wild. Big Fiction is an independent, Seattle-based journal publishing ambitious and delicious fiction twice a year, in hand-designed letterpress issues. Big Fiction was created with the goal of providing a beautiful home for long fiction that otherwise would not find a place in traditional literary magazines.

Representing Big Fiction at our Friday night offsite are Mylène Dressler and Jerry Gabriel!

Mylène Dressler is a novelist whose work been praised by the New York Times as “splendid” and by the Christian Science Monitor as “haunting” and “perfect.” A former professional ballet dancer who wrote her first book while a doctoral student at Rice University, she is the author of The Medusa Tree, The Deadwood Beetle, and The Floodmakers. She has held numerous writing residencies, including a Fulbright Fellowship, the Paisano Fellowship and the Carson McCullers Fellowship, and is the current Visiting Writer at Guilford College. She lives and writes in North Carolina and in the canyon country of southern Utah.

Jerry Gabriel’s first book of short fiction, Drowned Boy, was published in January 2010 by Sarabande Books, and has been awarded the Towson Prize for Literature and named a “Discover Great New Writers” selection by Barnes and Noble. His stories have appeared in Epoch, One Story, The Missouri Review, and Five Chapters. He lives in southern Maryland and is a visiting assistant professor of English at St. Mary’s College of Maryland. He’s at work on a new book of short stories.
